A Message From The Principal

Principal’s Message

It is with great pleasure that I welcome all visitors to this, our newly revamped school website. We hope it will prove uniquely informative and provide a rich flavour of all that makes our school and its community so special.

Located in the heart of Monasterevin town, ours is a primary school with a current enrolment of 367 pupils and a teaching staff of 19. Girls are enrolled in all classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class while boys are enrolled in both our Junior Infant and Senior Infant Classes.

Rooted firmly in the tradition of the Mercy Sisters, we uphold a strong Catholic Ethos. In that rich spirit of welcome and inclusion, we are delighted to count many children of different religious traditions and backgrounds amongst our pupil community.

Our team is comprised of gifted, dedicated and vital people – Teachers, SNAs, Office Administrator, Caretaker, Board of Management, Parents’ Council and our wider school community. Working together in harmony, we endeavour to offer our pupils the broadest and most fulfilling education possible.

Our Vision Statement clearly states that we are committed to:-

  • The development of each child’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional, creative and physical potential
  • The promotion of a caring, child centred learning environment influenced by the teaching and example of Jesus Christ – cultivating Christian values of respect, self-esteem and co-operation
  • Showing special care for the less privileged and those at risk
  • Making the school a centre of excellence in which high professional standards are maintained while developing partnership between Staff, Parents/Guardians, Management and our local community

At this juncture we are about to enter an exciting new phase of our school journey. Presently, a new 24-classroom school, incorporating Special Autism Classes, is being built on our site. This multi-million euro construction project is being completed in 2 Phases.

Phase 1 is scheduled to open in September 2023. Very soon, therefore, we will be vacating our existing building and moving into this new and modern structure. The vacated building will then be demolished and the construction of Phase 2 will commence.

In the final months of 2024 we expect the new school to be fully completed. It is at this point we will be amalgamating with our neighbouring school, St. Peter’s – a school with which we already share very close and fruitful links.

Now is a time of great excitement and anticipation as we experience momentous change on the educational landscape. Equally, it is a time of memory and remembrance.

Very soon all primary school children in Monasterevin will be afforded the opportunity to begin and end their education together. Two proud school traditions will merge to forge a new and vibrant entity which will serve this community for many more years to come.

May this work excite our hearts and kindle in our minds a creativity to journey beyond the old limits.

Respectfully yours,
Declan Costello.
